About Florence

The Florence E. Potts Memorial Foundation was founded in 2018 by her children Benjamin and Rachael. Florence was born in Hamtramck, Michigan and was a lifelong Detroiter. Florence attended Detroit Public Schools graduating from Central High School and continued her education with a Bachelor’s Degree from Wayne State University and Master’s Degree from Oakland University. She was a devoted educator in the Detroit Public School system for nearly 30 years having taught at Foster Elementary, Spain Elementary/Middle School and finally Mumford High School where she was employed until her passing from Breast Cancer in the year 2000.

For anyone that knew her, she was a helping and happy spirit that touched hearts around the world. She loved dancing and was everyone’s cheerleader. Having been an avid sport fan she attended all sporting events and you could hear her yelling in support of all her students.
